REGISTRATION

Please follow these steps to register for sailing classes:

1.      First, from the list below, select the classes you would like to register for, one at a time. Below each class description there is a link to register. Click on this link and select your particular class. Click on "Register now." You will see the class you have chosen, with the option to "Add Additional Programs." Click on this link to add classes until the Selected Programs screen shows all the classes you need. (You can remove classes or change the number of participants.) Then click "Continue."

2.      If you have not used this site to register before, you will be led to open an account by selecting a username and password and entering contact information. Please be sure to distinguish between summer and winter addresses and phone numbers.Continue. WARNING the password that you choose will be stored in plain text and will be sent to you by email. Please do not use a password that you use to protect sensitive information.

3.     You will see the classes you have chosen with drop-down menus in front of each. Now click "Create New Participant." You will enter you child's name and basic information, then continue. Click "Create New Participant" to add a second child, until you have entered all participants. (Once your children are entered, their names will automatically appear in the drop-down menus.)

4.      Then, from the drop-down menu, choose the participant for each class listed. Continue.

5.      Fill out registration information and medical forms for each participant and continue to checkout. If you are not a KYC member, select to pay the Junior Membership Fee only once for each child.

6.      Check out and pay using your credit card, or opt to pay in person by sending in a check. You will be sent an email confirmation and receipt. If you want to be considered for a scholarship, select "Pay in Person" and contact the registrar by email.

7.      If at any time during the registration you get stuck or stop before the process is complete, go to "My File" in the menu bar to finish registering and pay your balance. You can look at and edit your account information on this page. Learn to Sail Week
June 23 - 27, 2008

Learn to Sail Week is a week of beginning sailing classes open to any member of the Blue Hill Peninsula community. The classes will teach introductory seamanship, water safety, boat rigging, and basic boat handling. Children in grades 3-8 will sail Optimist dinghies; high school and adult sailors will sail 420s.

3rd through 5th grades             0900 - 1130
6th through 8th grades             1300 - 1530
Teens and adults                      morning or afternoon

Adult Sailing
Tuesday Evenings: 7/1,7/8,7/15,7/22,7/29,8/5,8/12

This is a new program for our adult sailors. Join us on Tuesday evenings for a sailing class. No experience is necessary, and all levels are welcome. Beginning sailing skills and basic seamanship will be covered. Join for the seven week session ($140) , or pay weekly ($25)as a "drop in" student. This class is subject to a minimum enrollment.

Rowing

The rowing class teaches 6 and 7-year-olds rowing, basic nautical terms, seamanship and water safety. Rowers will practice on the water from 9:00-10:30. Snacks (bring your own) and supervised shore activities will take place from 10:30-11:30. Parents are welcome to pick up their children at 10:30 when the rowers get off of the water. No more than 2 sessions recommended. Please note that the children meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings!

Opti A

For 8 years old and up, an introductory class for sailors with little or no experience in a single-handed boat. Basic knots, parts of the boat, rigging and de-rigging, boat handling in calm conditions, basic seamanship. Class placement list.

Opti B

For sailors who have completed at least one session of Opti A and by permission of the instructor. After successful completion of this level a sailor will be able to rig a boat and sail independently with confidence. Class placement list.

Cruising 420

For older experienced sailors ready to move on to the faster, double-handed Club 420, and for older beginners. Emphasis on basic sailing for beginners, on boat handling, seamanship and advanced sailing skills for the more experienced. This is a good class for older advanced sailors who want fun and a non-competitive atmosphere. Class placement list.

Opti Adventures

An afternoon class for sailors who are comfortable with more wind and ready to venture out of the harbor. Emphasis on independence in boat rigging and skippering, basic navigation rules, and boat maintenance. This class will focus on boathandling in a non racing atmosphere. Children must be able to rig, tack, jibe, and go on all points of sail independently. Class placement list.

JV Opti Race Team

Students will continue to improve sailing skills under more challenging conditions. Racing rules, tactics, boat safety and fun are emphasized. JV Opti Race Team will not travel to away regattas. Class placement list.

Opti Race Team
Varsity and Junior Varsity 420 Race Team

These classes are for eager and experienced racers, with instructor's permission. Team members will train at KYC and travel as teams to compete in local, regional and national regattas throughout the summer. Race team is best considered a single session of 7 weeks. Participation for the whole session will be difficult for many sailors, but enrollment for short or discontinuous periods is discouraged and should be with coach's permission and with consideration of the travel and training schedule. Parents must drive and/ or chaperone at at least 2 regattas. Boat ownership is required for the Opti Race Team. Varsity and Junior Varsity 420 Racers should sign up for 420 Race Team. Practice schedules and regatta participation will be determined by the 420 Race Coach Class placement list.
